Improv Karaoke, Vol. One

Laura Hall

A whole new way to do song improv; it's like karaoke, but you'll learn how to make up your very own song!

Created by Laura Hall, pianist on the popular television show, "Whose Line is it Anyway", Improv Karaoke is a two cd set especially designed for people who want to learn how to do song improv.

Disc 1 starts with a general tutorial that gives an overview of song improv, with lots of tips and pointers. Then you’ll hear a demo version of each track, improvised by people like Keegan-Michael Key, Dan Castellaneta and Kathy Kinney, based on suggestions they’ve gotten on the spot.

Disc 2 has all the same tracks, but without any talking or demos. It’s just like karaoke, except you get to make up your own, original songs, on the fly. This is your chance to jump in and give song improv a try!

Improv Karaoke is a perfect tool for theater and improv classes; as a way for improv groups to practice when they don’t have a live musician; for improv performances; or just for fun at a party, camp or special event. You can host an Improv Karaoke Night at a bar or club, and have teams compete. You can even use the tracks to make up your own song for a special event like an anniversary or birthday.

Even if you’ve been scared to try song improv, Improv Karaoke will get you started and having fun. And if you’re an old hand, you can use the cd to sharpen your skills and try it with your friends. Improv Karaoke is a whole new way to do song improv!

Headin' Home

The Sweet Potatoes

With polished harmonies and well oiled songwriting, this music steers you through the sounds of Americana, bluegrass, country, folk and a tinge of gospel that will have you stomping your boot and singing along.

Whether it's a drive under Louisiana skies or a ride on a mountain railway, “Headin’ Home” is where the heart is. With polished harmonies and well oiled songwriting, The Sweet Potatoes have assembled a sonic vehicle well suited for a trip down Route 66.

The Sweet Potatoes steer us through their newest album with the sounds of Americana, bluegrass, country, folk and a tinge of gospel that will have you stomping your boot and singing along your journey.

As seasoned veterans of the entertainment industry, Kelly Macleod, Laura Hall and Rick Hall have delivered a heartfelt album that is the culmination of their combined past experiences, passions and joys. From Laura's front porch as a young woman to Kelly's back yard as a little girl their songs will make you smile, but it might be through a few tears. Kelly Macleod (vocals, guitar, writer) took to the road with Eddie Van Halen and her band “Private Life” after being discovered in Shreveport, LA. Laura Hall (vocals, guitar, writer, accordion, ukulele) best known as the pianist on "Whose Line is it Anyway,” also played with Chicago musicians Michael Smith, Buddy Mondlock, and Tim Grimm. Rick Hall (vocals, bass, harmonica) accompanies Kelly and his wife Laura. Rick has multiple television and film credits that include NCIS and K.C. Undercover. Together the three fuse their talents to form the unique and fresh sound, The Sweet Potatoes.

“Headin’ Home” has a familiarity with the opening track’s a capella harmonization in “Those Pines” The imagery in the album takes the listener on a road trip of nostalgia. We find ourselves navigating across acoustic love ballads such as “Without You” and twangy upbeat gospel pieces like “Down to the River.” The Sweet Potatoes successfully take their life's stories and create “Headin’ Home”, a relatable Americana record straight from the heart.

Faith, Good Neighbors and a Telephone

The Sweet Potatoes

The Sweet Potatoes dish up a fresh mix of country, folk and Americana, sure to bring a smile to your face with their sweet harmonies and finely crafted songwriting. Featuring Laura Hall, Kelly Macleod and Rick Hall.

The Sweet Potatoes come out of Southern California dishing up a fresh blend of country, folk and homespun Americana, sure to bring a smile to your face with their sweet harmonies and finely crafted songwriting. On this second cd they are in fine form; writing, picking and singing at their best, all with their own kind of twang.

"Faith, Good Neighbors and a Telephone", is produced by Nashville favorite, Phil Swann. The band is joined in the studio by guests that include David Carpenter (Billy Ray Cyrus, Julian Lennon) and Laura Hall's bandmate from her “day job” as the pianist on “Whose Line is it Anyway”, Linda Taylor (Maia Sharp, Crystal Bowersox).

Original songs by band members Laura Hall and Kelly Macleod include “Sweet Thing”, a back porch style ode to love, and “You Kissed Me That Way”, a driving ballad about the power of that first kiss. The cd title comes from their bluegrass infused tune about the joys of rural living, “Spunky Bottoms”. The band also does a bluesy take on Patsy Cline's “Walkin' After Midnight”, and a delicately dark acoustic version of The Eurthymics “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)”.

The Sweet Potatoes

The Sweet Potatoes

Acoustic driven Americana music with a fresh twist featuring Laura Hall (Whose Line is it Anyway) and Kelly Macleod (Private Life)

Kelly Macleod and Laura Hall have been friends for a long time, but started making music together after Kelly starred in SLICE OF PIE, a film written by Laura's husband, Rick Hall. The collaboration on the film soon led the two singer/songwriters to write what would become their new self titled cd. The songs are filled with their experiences in life...finding and appreciating love, having faith, raising children, childhood memories and the places where these memories took place. The material is heartfelt, rooted in the family ties that made them the women they are today. Produced by one of Nashville’s favorites, Phil Swann, the cd features the guitar work of Linda Taylor (Laura's band mate from Whose Line is it Anyway), and a host of other talented musicians.

Kelly Macleod has recorded two albums with Warner Brothers records, which were produced by Eddie Van Halen. She was the lead singer in the band PRIVATE LIFE, and was the opening act for Van Halen’s OU812 Tour. Two of her songs have been featured in the movies WAYNES WORLD and GREMLINS 2.

Laura Hall is best known as the pianist on WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? She has also written and recorded two solo cds of faith based songs, A WOMAN OF FAITH and ALL IN GOD’S GOOD TIME.

I See A Tiger/Come Join the Parade

Laura Hall

Music that's fun for kids, and adults won't find annoying. From the piano player on tv's "Whose Line Is It Anyway".

Most people recognize Laura Hall as the musical director and improvisational pianist on the ABC hit, WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?, or from her guest star appearances on THE DREW CAREY SHOW live episodes. Yes, she's a great improviser, but she's also a wonderful singer/songwriter.

Laura has made two recordings of original music for children, I SEE A TIGER and COME JOIN THE PARADE, that are now available on one cd. The cd features her lively, fun, music for kids, with catchy rhythms and imaginative lyrics. The songs are in a wide variety of musical styles, and are very accessible to today's kids.

Songs include "Polar Bears", which imagines what it would be like if the furry creatures took over your house; the jazzy "Scared at Night", which deals in a humorous way with childrens' fear of the dark; "I Love to Take a Bath", where kids get cleaned up to a lively country beat; and "Wild Child", about a kid who's not always on her best behavior.

Laura has worked with kids as a preschool teacher and music teacher. She's also a mother of two. She loves the spontaneous joy with which children respond to music, and she love to share that joy with kids.
