A Woman of Faith (2006)

A Woman of Faith
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by A Woman of FaithSister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

I look into my daughter’s eyes, and I see her looking up to me
I know she’s learning every day, and I feel that responsibility

She looks to me for guidance, together we are striving
When she looks at me, I hope to God she’ll see

A woman of faith, a woman of hope
A woman who loves with all her heart, but still knows how to let go
A woman who understands that God’s the one who gives her all of her strength
Let her see, a woman of faith

I helped her learn to walk, knowing she would learn by falling down
And someday I’ll have to let her go, knowing that’s it’s hard out on her own
So I plant these seeds of faith, knowing she can take them anyplace
I’ve given her the best of me, and I pray one day she’ll be

A woman of faith, a woman of hope
A woman who loves with all her heart, but still knows how to let go
A woman who understands that God’s the one who gives her all of her strength
Let her be, a woman of faith

When I hold her hand in mine, I feel the presence of the divine
It’s something I can’t define, we are part of God’s design
Lord let her know that I’m

A woman of faith, a woman of hope
A woman who loves with all her heart, but still knows how to let go
A woman who understands that God’s the one who gives her all of her strength
Let her be, a woman of faith
Let her see, a woman of faith
Let her be, a woman of faith

Lord Only Knows
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2006 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

Lord only knows the beauty of, the waiting flower in each unopened bud
Every leaf and every vine, in its own time
Lord only knows my hidden heart, and all the ways I’ve fallen apart
Lord knows the promise hidden in me, that I can’t yet see

It is the promise of renewal, the good Lord always keeps
It is the blessing that lies waiting in my garden fast asleep

Lord only knows the mysteries, coiled in each bud, on every tree
The sun will melt the winter snow, Lord only knows

No matter what you or I do
No matter how we come unglued
Spring will come and we will be renewed

The sun will melt the winter snow, Lord only knows
Lord only knows

Tell Me
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2000 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

It is a story old as the hills, worn smooth like a stone in the waves
It is a story told a million times, but it still rings true today

Tell me all about Jesus, how He lived and died for you and for me
Tell me all about Jesus, and how his sacrifice has set us free
Tell me, tell me

So I will tell it, tell it to my children, it will live on long after I am gone
Some day they’ll tell it to their children, and this story will live on

Tell me all about Jesus, how He lived and died for you and for me
Tell me all about Jesus, and how his sacrifice has set us free
Tell me, tell me
Tell me, tell me

We Build This House
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2004 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

We build this house, on a firm foundation
We build this house, on the solid rock
We build this house, with Jesus as the cornerstone
We build this house, on the word of God

We can’t build on shifting sand
We gotta stick to God’s own plan
We keep on building this house anew
With everything we say, and everything we do

We build this house, on a firm foundation
We build this house, on the solid rock
We build this house, with Jesus as the cornerstone
We build this house, on the word of God

All are welcome in these walls
God accepts and loves us all
We do this work because we plan to stay
Building God’s kingdom, every single day

We build this house, on a firm foundation
We build this house, on the solid rock
We build this house, with Jesus as the cornerstone
We build this house, on the word of God

The Little Things
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2001 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)
This is the only song that ever came to me all in one piece, like it was dropped from heaven.
I was rocking my daughter to sleep, and there it was.

I finally get the baby to bed, but the kitchen is still a mess
I haven’t folded the laundry yet, when I trip on one of her toys
It makes a squeaky noise

She starts to fuss in her bed, I bend over and kiss her head
She smells like a dream, so instead of doing the dishes
I stand there and watch her sleep

Thank You, Lord, for the little things, the sweet little things
Thank You, Lord, for this life, for this life that I love

This world can be so rough, I can not protect her enough
All I can give is my undying love, and the rest is in Your hands
I’ve learned to understand

No matter what the world may do, You’re always there to see us through
So I give these thanks to You, this is a grateful mother’s prayer
To a God who’s always there

Thank You, Lord, for the little things, the sweet little things
Thank You, Lord, for this life, for this life that I love

You’re the Shepherd
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2006 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

Sometimes life gets complicated, sometimes I lose my way
Sometimes everything seems out of control, and all I can do is pray
That tomorrow will be a better day

Cause you’re the shepherd who gathers up the sheep
And I’m that little lost lamb
But you will find me, and bring me to the fold
And take me just as I am

I have wandered through the desert, I have tasted the gritty sand
When I feared I was hopelessly lost, You came and took me by the hand
And led me to the promised land

Cause you’re the shepherd who gathers up the sheep
And I’m that little lost lamb
But you will find me, and bring me to the fold
And take me just as I am

Hymn of Thanks
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2006 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

For something as simple, as two little sparrows flitting across the sky
I give you thanks Lord
For something as miraculous, as watching a baby being born to this world
I give you thanks Lord

For something as welcome as a smile, as solid as a purpose
As powerful as desire, as tender as a kiss
As complex as a family, as difficult as true love
I bow down with gratitude, and lift this hymn of thanks to you

For something as everyday, as a good cup of coffee in a warm kitchen morning, I give you thanks Lord
For something as amazing, as a chance to start over when I’ve been wrong, I give you thanks Lord

For the laughter of a child, the wisdom of age
The lessons that I learn, as I walk this path each day
For this big old crazy world, and the people here who love me
I bow down with gratitude, and lift this hymn of thanks to you
I bow down with gratitude, and lift this hymn of thanks to you

Hold On
Words and music by Laura Hall

©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

What about those times when you won’t give me a clear sign
And I am lost and I’m confused and I don’t know just what to do
What about those days when I can’t seem to find my way
And I can not hear your voice and make another stupid choice

That’s when I know I’ve got to hold on and pray
And know that you are with me even when it doesn’t feel that way
And when I’m having a very bad day is when I’ve got to hold on and pray

Lord I know that you have got a plan in store for me
But some days I’ve got no clue of what that plan might be
I struggle with my faith and I don’t mean to be impatient
But Lord at times it seems that I have lost track of my dreams

That’s when I know I’ve got to hold on and pray
And know that you are with me even when it doesn’t feel that way
And when I’m having a very bad day is when I’ve got to hold on and pray

Cause your ways are a mystery to me
And some days I want it all laid out so I can see
Why won’t you make your will known to me Lord

That’s when I know I’ve got to hold on and pray
And know that you are with me even when it doesn’t feel that way
And when I’m having a very bad day is when I’ve got to hold on and pray

This is my Dream
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2004 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)
I wrote this for the 2006 Disciples of Christ Women's Quadrennial.

This is my dream, of a place, where God’s love is reflected in every single face
This is my prayer, for a day, when everyone is cared for and none are thrown away
This is my dream, this is my prayer
This is my dream, this is my prayer

Now is the moment, here is the place
May all of God’s children, feel this loving embrace
This is my dream, this is my prayer
This is my dream, this is my prayer

This is my dream, of a land, where differences are strengths and we all walk hand in hand
This is my prayer, for a peace, that has the strength to last for all eternity
This is my dream, this is my prayer
This is my dream, this is my prayer

Now is the moment, here is the place
May all the things we say and do, resonate with our faith
This is our dream, this is our prayer
This is our dream, this is our prayer

Take This Burden
Words by Laura Hall, music by Linda Taylor
©2001 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI) and Funky Honky Music (ASCAP)

I was inspired to write this after watching "O, Brother Where Art Thou"

I got a worried and a troubled mind, I got a worried and a troubled mind
I got a worried and a troubled mind, Lord take this burden from me

I got a weary and a heavy heart, I got a weary and a heavy heart
I got a weary and a heavy heart, Lord take this burden from me

I have wandered far from my home, like a lamb, gone astray
I feel so lost and alone, that’s when I, get down on my knees to pray

I got a worried and a troubled mind, I got a worried and a troubled mind
I got a worried and a troubled mind, Lord take this burden from me

This Son of Mine
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

This baby in my belly, what will he be when he comes
They told me, the Lord is with thee, among women you are the chosen one

My journey has been long, I am weary to the bone
With my baby almost come, and I’m so far from my home
They told me be not afraid, and yet I fear for him
And this world I bring him in

Will he be human, will he be divine
This son of man, this son of mine

So I will name him Jesus, he will be called Immanuel
And wherever this life takes him, know that I have loved him well
Will the world embrace him with open arms
O God please don’t let him be harmed

Will he find glory, will he be a light that shines
This son of man, this son of mine

Though I’m just a peasant, I know I have been blessed
I will be the Lord’s servant, as I hold my baby to my breast

Will he be human, will he be divine
This son of man, this son of mine

Will he find glory, will he be a light that shines
This son of man, this son of mine

Here I Am
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)
I wrote this for my baptism

Lord, I have been a slow train coming
I have taken a long and twisted route
I have wrestled with my demons
I have struggled so long with my doubts

But here I am anyway
On my knees trying to learn how to pray
If you will have me, Lord, I will be yours

Here I am, Lord, here I am
Here I am, Lord, here I am

So let this water wash me clean, let my tears flow free
As I release my fears to You, and submit so gratefully
I am walking toward your light, I will never turn away
Cause in your presence, Lord, is where I want to stay

Here I am, Lord, here I am
Here I am, Lord, here I am

Lord, I have been a slow train coming,
But here I am, oh Lord, here I am

Pray For Peace
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2001 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)
This was written for a post 9/11 service

People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace
People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace

We may voice our prayers in many different languages
We may call you Lord by many different names
But we know that your love for us
Is all the same, you love us all the same

People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace
People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace

Your love knows no boundaries
Your love knows no divides
And where the light of your love shines bright
There will be no dark places for evil to hide

People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace
People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace

Sometimes hate is easy, sometimes love is hard
Sometimes fear overtakes us, and peace seems so far away
Still we hope and pray, expectantly awaiting the day
When love will rule the earth, when peace will overflow
When human kindness, and understanding
Will spill out on the streets in every corner of the globe

People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace
People all over the world, pray for peace, pray for peace

All in God's Good Time

All in God's Good Time
Words and music by Laura Hall

This is the place you were meant to be, all in God's good time
These are the faces you were meant to see, all in God's good time
These are the gifts that you've been given
And this is the life you were born to be livin'
And I know you're blessed forgiven and free
All in God's good time
All in God's good time
All in God's good time

Life unfolds in mysterious ways, all in God's good time
So live it to the fullest 'til the end of your days, all in God's good time
Fill your heart with joyful gratitude
Live your live with a loving attitude
Let go of the things that don't matter to you
All in God's good time

All in God's good time
All in God's good time

So take my hand and walk with me
We don't know what God has planned
But together we will see
All in God's good time

This is the place you were meant to be, all in God's good time
These are the faces we were meant to see, all in God's good time
These are the gifts that we've been given
And this is the life we were born to be livin'
And I know we're blessed forgiven and free

All in God's good time
All in God's good time

A Little Bit of Heaven
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

We'll make a little bit of heaven here on earth
Right here, right now
And we praise the Lord for He alone is worthy
Right here, right now

When I see the light in your eyes
When I feel the warmth of your smile
The presence of the Lord shines through
From you to me, from me to you

Make a little bit of heaven here on earth
Right here, right now
And we praise the Lord for He alone is worthy
Right here, right now

When we love our sisters and brothers
When we learn to treat one another
With respect, with dignity
From me to you, from you to me

We'll make a little bit of heaven here on earth
Right here, right now
Now we praise the Lord for He alone is worthy
Right here, right now

When we find our common ground
In the name of the Lord, in the name of the Lord
We will lay our swords right down
In the name of the Lord, in the name of the Lord

We'll make a little bit of heaven here on earth
Right here, right now
And we praise the Lord for He alone is worthy
Right here, right now

You Can Choose Hope
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

Are you sitting around waiting for the sky to fall down?
When they're handing out the good stuff, are you sure you won't get any?
Have your disappointments become your best friends?
Has your heart been broken one time too many?

So where do you go from here?
And what are you gonna do?
When the choices are unclear
But in spite of all you've been through

You can choose hope, you can choose joy
You can choose faith, you can choose love
You can choose to trust in God, you can choose hope

I know you had it rough when you were coming up
But maybe it's time to lay that burden down
I know it's hard to do, but God will be right there with you
To help you trade your sorrow for a crown

So who are you gonna forgive?
And what are you gonna let go of?
It's time for you to live
It's time for you to know love

You can choose hope, you can choose joy
You can choose faith, you can choose love
You can choose to trust in God
You can choose to heal, you can choose grace

You can choose life, you can choose peace
You can choose sweet release
You can choose hope
You can choose hope
You can choose hope

Awake
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

Awake, awake, arise from your bed
Awake, awake, feel the presence of the Lord
O can you hear the fluttering of angel's wings?
Awake, awake, arise and sing

Cast aside your deepest fears
Put away your doubt
Open up all windows
and let the darkness out

Awake, awake, arise from your bed
Awake, awake, feel the presence of the Lord
O can you see the light of the bright morning sun?
Awake, awake, a new day has begun
Awake, awake, God's new day has begun

When We Worship You
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

We all come from different places
We all come with different truths
But when we gather in this house
We become as one when we worship You

For You alone are perfect and holy
By Your grace we are renewed
As we gather in this house
We become as one when we worship You

We all come with our own struggles
We all have our own work to do
But when we gather in this house
We become as one when we worship You

For You alone are perfect and holy
By Your grace we are renewed
As we gather in this house
We become as one when we worship You

When we worship You
When we worship You
When we worship You

For You alone are perfect and holy
By Your grace we are renewed
As we gather in this house
We become as one when we worship You
We become as one when we worship You

You Are
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

You are our Father, we are Your children
We are Your children, You are our Mother

You are eternal, we are like blades of grass
We are like blades of grass, You are forever new

You walk in Heaven, we walk here on the earth
We walk here on the earth, You walk here with us

You are our history, we are alive
We are alive, You are our destiny
You made the universe, I am so small in it
I am so very small, but You know my name
You know my name

You are our God above, we praise Your holy name
We praise Your holy name, You are our God

Our God of love
You are the God of love

Love Believes
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

Love is patient, love is kind
Love surprises you and sneaks up from behind
Love knocks down ancient walls
and in their place builds up a lover's soul

Love will hope all things
Love endures all things
Love will bear all things
Love believes, love believes all things

Love is not jealous, it doesn't boast
Love offers its beloved a heavy coat
To protect them from the storms
That will surely come

Love will hope all things
Love endures all things
Love will bear all things
Love believes, love believes all things

Love rejoices in the truth
It does not bear a grudge
Abide in faith and hope
But the greatest one is love

Love will hope all things
Love endures all things
Love will bear all things
Love believes, love believes
Love believes, love believes
Love believes, love believes all things

God Never Promised
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

God never promised, that trouble wouldn't come around
God never promised, you would never feel any pain
God never promised, this life wouldn't hurt sometimes
God never promised, sunshine without any rain

But God did promise to always be by your side
And God did promise a love that is deep and wide
And God did promise to complete all the work in you He has begun
And to keep that promise God gave His son

God never promised, that your body would not fail you
God never promised, your friends would never leave
God never promised, this life was gonna be fair
God never promised, it would be easy if you just believed

But God did promise to always be by your side
And God did promise a love that is deep and wide
And God did promise life after life when your time on this earth is done
And to keep that promise God gave His son

But God did promise to always be by your side
And God did promise a love that is deep and wide
And God did promise He would complete all the work in you He has begun
And to keep that promise God gave His son
And to keep that promise God gave His son
God gave His son
God gave His son
God gave His son

Why Won't You Do It My Way?
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

I've jumped the groove, I'm outta sync
Fallen off track, no turning back, I'm on the brink
I'm outta sorts, on the ragged edge
Falling apart, broke my own heart, I lost my head
I'm trying to see the big picture but sometimes it's so hard
When I can barely see beyond my own backyard

Lord won't you help me, help me today
And could you please get to it before all my hair turns gray
Things would work out fine if you'd just do what I say
Why won't you do things my way, Lord?
Why won't you do it my way?

I'm out to sea, trapped in the flood
No solid ground, can be found, it's all as clear as mud
My little boat has sprung a leak
The odds are slim, that I can swim, things are looking bleak
I'm busy bailing but it's doing no good
I'd try to walk on water if I thought that I could

Lord won't you help me, help me today
What's taking you so long, this is what I pray
Things would work out fine if you'd just do what I say
Why won't you do things my way, Lord?
Why won't you do it my way?

Well, what it is a lesson that you're trying to get across
Maybe it's the fact that I'm not the boss
I'm sure there's something about patience too
I got to learn to give it all up to you

So when I'm lost, fallen from grace
Got to let go, of control, step out in faith
I'll learn to trust, in only you
And understand, you got a hand, in everything I do
If I could only get it through my tiny little brain
That I'm not the one who's driving this train

So Lord won't you help me to know your will?
'Cause I can't keep on pushing this rock up this hill
Things would work out fine if I'd just trust and obey
And learn to do things your way, Lord
I'll learn to do it your way
I'll learn to do things your way, Lord
I'll learn to do it your way

I'll learn to do it
I'll learn to do it
I'll learn to do it Your way

What's God Like (feat. Ruthie Hall)
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

What's God like, does he have a Dad or a Mom
What's God like, does he know where He came from
And is he busy running the world
Or does he just stay up in bed
What's God like, she said

She said La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

What's heaven like, is it always foggy there
What's heaven like, do you have to style your hair a certain way so
The halo fits on top of your head
What's heaven like, she said

She said La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

And if we get to heaven would we know what to do
And if we met in heaven, would I be me and you be you

She said La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la

Bigger Than Me
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

God is bigger than you, God is bigger than me
God is bigger than our differences, God is bigger than the ways we disagree
God's love is all embracing
So find the grace in all things

God's love is so wide, that everybody everywhere is welcome to the table
It's only foolish pride, to think that we are bigger than a God who is able
To make the planet spin, to set the stars in the sky
To give us new beginnings, you and I

God is bigger than one nation, God is bigger than one faith
God is bigger than our deepest fears, God is bigger than any kind of hate
God's love is all embracing
So find the grace in all things

God's love is so wide
So everybody everywhere is welcome to the table
It's only foolish pride to think that we are bigger than a God who is able
To make the planet spin, to set the stars in the sky
to give us new beginnings, you and I

God's love is all embracing
So find the grace in all things

God's love is so wide
That everybody everywhere is welcome to the table
It's only foolish pride to think that we are bigger than the God who is able

God's love is so wide
That everybody everywhere is welcome to the table
It's only foolish pride to think that we are bigger than the God who is able
To make the planet spin, to set the stars in the sky
to give us new beginnings, you and I
You and I

The Moment
Words and music by Laura Hall
©2002 by Sister Trudy’s Music (BMI)

This is a moment like any other moment
Most ordinary and everyday
One of the millions of tiny moments
Strung together to make a life

But what if this was the moment you were reborn?
What if this was the moment you were purified?
What if this was the moment you finally started to heal?
What if this was the moment you broke down and cried?

What if this was the moment you met the love of your life?
What if this was the moment you began your sobriety?
What if this was the moment you admitted you'd been wrong?
What if this was the moment you were set free?

Would you overcome your fears, would you change your point of view?
Would you touch somebody's heart, in ways you never knew?
Would you live a simpler life, would you let go of your pain?
Would you trust in this new world, where everything was changed?

What if this was the moment you saw the face of God?
What if this was the moment that you were blessed?
What if this was the moment you reached out to an enemy?
What if this was the moment you were finally laid to rest?

This is a moment like any other moment
Most ordinary and everyday
Just one of the millions of tiny moments
Strung together to make a life
To make a life
